- The activities of the Company have never had any influence on the site that the ecologists claim, which is outside of the mining concession
- The Company does not carry out any industrial discharges derived from its activity, as the water from its industrial process is recirculated
- The data of Ecologistas en Acción have no certification whatsoever
Strategic Minerals Spain disagrees with the accusations made by Ecologistas en Acción, which attributes to the Company acts that are not those of the company. They also report analytical data without demonstrating that they have been officially carried out by a certified company and, therefore, without providing the documents that support these results.
The activities of the Company have never had any impact on this site, which is located outside the mining concession, and furthermore, is part of the 100 meter wide river buffer zone [zona de policía de río]. The pipe is unrelated to the activity of the mine; in fact, its origin is unknown. At first glance, it can be appreciated that it is an old iron pipe, and Strategic Minerals Spain has only used polyethylene or rubber pipes since the beginning of its operations.
The Company has been aware of the existence of this pipe since the pre-operational environmental study was carried out, and this is recorded in the zero-status document as point 1 of the water sample. From the pre-operational stage, controls are carried out both by the Company, through laboratories accredited by ENAC and communicated to official authorities, and, once production has started, official controls by the Confederación Hidrográfica del Miño-Sil (Miño-Sil Hydrographic Confederation). The results of these controls remain within the levels already measured pre-operationally, demonstrating that there is no impact or effect of the mining activity on this site.
The Company states that the site indicated by the ecologists is outside its sphere of influence – approximately 500 meters from the fence – and clarifies that the Company does not carry out any industrial discharges derived from its activity, as the water from its industrial process is recirculated.
The Company adds that Ecologistas en Acción fails to mention that a few meters from this site there is an old waste dump that has nothing to do with the mine or the concession and that may be affecting it.
For all these reasons, the Company reserves the right to take legal action because of the falsehood of the accusations made.
